On August 29, 2018 at 23:51 Monticello, Trinity and Stony Point Fire Departments were dispatched to a structure fire at 282 Scotts Creek Road at Benfield Sanitation Services. Upon arrival units found heavy fire conditions to the maintenance shop. Immediately fire attack began with multiple hand lines utilizing personnel from all three departments. Due to heavy fire conditions two different water systems were used to provide the necessary water to extinguish the fire. This required a water haul operation utilizing multiple tankers from varies surrounding departments. The fire was contained to the maintenance shop and did not damage the office area. At 01:20 the fire was brought under control. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and there were no injuries to civilians nor firefighters. Extensive overhaul took most of the night. The fire remains under investigation by the Iredell County Fire Marshal Office. Damages are estimated over 1 million dollars. We would like to thank the following departments that responded their personnel and or tankers: Trinity, Stony Point, West Iredell, Ebenezer, Cool Springs, Central, Wilkes Iredell, County Line, Harmony, Union Grove, Sheffield-Callahan, and Lone Hickory. As with any structure fire we received support from the following: Iredell County Rescue Squad, Iredell County EMS, Iredell County Mobile Air Response Team, these agencies support the fire departments operation. A special thanks to the Monticello Fire Department and Stony Point Auxiliary for responding with drink and food for responders. Photos courtesy of Shannon Goodman.
